Hooks and CTA

You want to read this before editing your portfolio again and again. Yes, the portfolio is very important, but even more important are the videos you create.

When pitching to a brand, you want to sell your videos. If they don't have the hook to keep real customers engaged, you've already lost. Brands might not even respond to you.

Aesthetic-only videos are one thing that I personally don't like in portfolios. To be honest, anyone could do that. Even the brand itself can produce videos where only the product is seen. Instead of only one aesthetic video where you show the product, integrate single outtakes in your full video. Show the brand that you can sell everything and that you can catch customers' attention.

Make sure to have at least three videos that are selling a product. This means:

  • great HOOK
  • voiceover or subtitles
  • your face
  • very clear script
  • customer needs to feel understood
  • sell the benefits or the result and not the product
  • make sure to get enough switches and not just speaking to camera

(e.g. your face and speaking to camera, after 3 seconds showcase the product, then apply product on face but do voiceover and not speaking in camera, etc.)

  • DON'T forgett a CTA!

I've seen so few videos with a CTA. Brands want to sell their product, not just inform viewers. They want cash from the viewer, and a CTA is a must-have.

Hook examples:

-Did you know that..
-I don't want to gatekeep anymore, so...
-If you can't sleep just like me,... (starting with a problem of your audience)

CTA examples:
-Order now
-They have 15% off right now
-Click the link below

Don't get me wrong, you can earn money without showing your face. But your clients are very limited and the earnings are very low.

I hope this will help you with your videos. Let me see your great new portfolio.
